Life’s Little Instruction Book. Do you remember those? There are a variety of books available now that list short humorous or encouraging quotes. If I remember correctly these books weren’t just quotes but ideas on how to get more out of life. One that I remember was to “attend a children’s Christmas (or holiday, if you wish) program”. Even if the singing is off-key or someone forgets a line, they are very enjoyable. And maybe that’s the point – it doesn’t have to be perfect to be enjoyed. Family and friends gather and applaud our efforts.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Christams recital for Spirit Wind Music Studios. (Not all of the students are children.) I worked at Spirit Wind for a little while, so I know most of the teachers and some of the students. It was fun to see some familiar faces. The recital featured instrumental performances on piano, guitar, banjo, baritone, trumpet, saxophone and a few vocal performances too. No, it didn’t go off without a hitch, but there were lots of smiles and applause.

There is still time to get out there and enjoy a holiday concert. If for some reason you can’t make it or can’t find one, find some children’s Christmas music. Play it loud and maybe even dance a little!

Now there’s something to smile about!
